Position: Strategy Analyst – Clinical Portfolio
Site: Toronto Western Hospital
Department: Toronto Western Management
Reports To: Senior Manager, Strategic Projects
Hours: 35 hours per week
Status: Temporary Full-Time, 4 month co-op placement, May to August

The Opportunity

The Strategy Analyst – Clinical Portfolio supports the Senior Manager, Strategic Projects and the Vice President, Clinical to plan, implement and evaluate projects within the portfolio and across UHN. The portfolio is programmatic, spans all UHN sites and includes: Medicine Portfolio, which includes the Emergency Department, Hemodialysis, Neurosurgery, Family Health Teams, Mental Health Program, Patient Flow, Krembil Brain Institute and Medicine. As part of the Acute Care Programs governance structure that was implemented in fall 2020, there may be opportunities for the Strategy Analyst – Clinical Portfolio to collaborate with individuals in the Acute Care Program and with other areas across UHN.


The co-op term will feature a blend of team-based and individual projects that allow the successful candidate to strengthen their project management, strategy, operations and communication skills. This unique learning opportunity at UHN will allow the successful candidate to gain valuable insight into the daily operations of Canada’s largest research and teaching hospital.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The position will be focused on planning, implementing and executing team-based and individual projects. Examples may include:
  • Program/ Project/ Operational evaluations
  • Supporting the launch of cross portfolio committees (e.g., Capital), and/or the refinement of existing Committees
  • Supporting analysis and project management tasks for portfolio strategy development
  • Supporting logistics and project management of portfolio-wide committees
  • Transition of COVID-19-related Committees and work to routine operations
  • Process improvement initiatives
  • The successful candidate will be expected to play different roles on each project – e.g., contribute, lead,
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to meet senior leaders across the organization and contribute to the operations of standing committees


Candidate Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration or a recognized equivalent
    • Detail oriented individual, with a commitment to producing high-quality outputs
    • Good judgement and sound business sense
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Highly proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
    • Problem-Solving & Analysis: Ability to translate a complex business question into an analytic approach and fit the approach into a business process flow/decision-making process that considers the clinical environment. You know how to think across multiple dimensions of a business (finance, operations, human resources) and work cross-functionally to deliver results. Asks questions to clarify the right problem, and generate viable Able to identify the types of input (people or data) needed to solve a problem.
  • Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively. Listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately. Asks questions to clarify, tailors language, tone, style and format to match the audience. Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people
  • Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. Solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others. Worksite Location and Conditions:

  • A mix of onsite at Toronto Western Hospital, and work from home.
  • Standard office conditions. Most work will be conducted on a laptop and requires engagement with project management, project leadership, clinical and administrative
